Part
biography, part retrospective and part stroke book, Bullets, Bombs and
Babes (and not necessarily in that order) is a treasure trove for
Sidaris fans. The filmmaker’s self-depreciating sense of humor evident in
his films, DVD commentaries and interviews luckily carries over into print
as well, in this colorful and lavishly illustrated hardback. It’s a coffee
table book for coffee tables crying out for quasi-pornographic photos of Playboy
Playmates holding automatic weapons. Andy writes about his family, his
Emmy-laden career with ABC Sports and even his friendship with Regis Philbin
before getting to the real goods on his dozen T&A action films that will prove
to be his legacy. But wait, there’s more! You’ll find interviews with Sidaris
regulars like Roberta Vasquez and Julie Strain and, for no good reason (but
who’s complaining?), 12 nudity-laden color pages of Sidaris stars in various
stages of undress. Sometimes the less-than-terrific layout resembles that
old movie magazine from the ‘80s I think was called Preview (where
film articles of questionable journalistic merit were fleshed out by porn
ads in the back), but when you think about it, that’s entirely appropriate.
Check out the mention of HITCH on pg. 27; you’ll find it opposite the photo
of Carrie Westcott in a sleek, black, bodyhugging outfit about to be attacked
by a ninja. www.hitchmagazine.com
